Make the business money stuff easier when you're creative or neurodivergent (plus behind-the-scenes of building a business that fits).

Behind the Scenes

I started my business to get out of burnout.

I know, that sounds like an oxymoron because business building can cause burnout, but looking back almost 5 years later, I would say it was a good decision.

I shared about this in my podcast interview with The Ordinary Business (listen on Apple or Spotify).

My burnout looked like constant low-grade irritation for no specific reason and feeling like I couldn’t people anymore.

Once I started my business, I could decide who I worked with and how we worked together (including no-people time). I also uncovered a hidden skill: I’m good at creating and troubleshooting systems. I set up my business systems early on, which saved me so much time and stress, especially when insomnia meant a shorter workday. All of this helped me create an environment with the time and space I needed to just be.

Did it work? Well, I still remember writing in my journal about my first morning waking up without feeling panic, just calm. And slowly, I collected more calm morning wake-ups that I still experience.

2026 Me thanks 2021 Me. It was totally worth it.

No Money Talks for November - January.

Get to Peaceful Money

This mini TED talk pops out of me when I'm talking with other business owners who are not accountants or bookkeepers.

In this accidental Ted talk, I explain the difference between bookkeeping when done by a tax-focused pro and a bookkeeping-focused accounting pro.

Why is there a difference? For tax pros, bookkeeping is just one small piece of a large tax puzzle, where the goal is getting year-end totals for the tax return.

And that’s not a bad thing. Unless you expect someone checking on your business health or want clarity about what happened with your money each month. Then we have confusion and miscommunication.

If you want to hear me get a little bit more nerdy on this, with an overview of why taxes and bookkeeping are actually different focuses and what a tax pro is juggling versus what a bookkeeper is tracking, listen to podcast episode 6: Your tax pro says they do bookkeeping. Which kind are you getting?
