Behind the Scenes

I think I'm mapping the messy middle so we all can have a better experience in it.

Most of my old frustration with the "messy middle" came from people who finished their own, then told everyone behind them "You can skip this mess if you just buy my course/download my freebie/do what I say.”

I think that’s a mistake.

Skipping the messy middle takes away our ability to figure out how to manage confusion and frustration to achieve an end goal, especially when creating something new like a business. (And really, we should learn this as children when there’s less serious consequences, but that’s another topic.)

The end of one messy middle (figuring out who I want to help and how) has started a new messy middle of figuring out what I want to create for them through my new podcast.

So apparently I live in the messy middle, might as well map it for you.

Get to Peaceful Money

Are you frustrated by your current payroll provider like QB Payroll and you want to switch? Well, if you can wait, switching at the right time avoids any headaches from unpaid taxes or unfiled reports.

I’ve cleaned up bookkeeping where the client switched in the middle of a quarter and the old payroll provider didn’t file reports or pay taxes, didn’t tell the new provider about what was due, and had already deleted the old records by the time it was discovered so we couldn’t even get a record of what was due.

To avoid all that mess:

If you can wait until January to switch, then your current payroll provider can finish filing this year’s reports and pay any taxes due.

And if you really can’t wait until the new year, the next best time is the start of a new quarter (like next month October). Just make sure you confirm all taxes were paid and reports filed before you finish the switch.

Need a payroll recommendation? For microbusinesses and solopreneurs, I like using Gusto payroll (this is my affiliate link).
